Product Detail This gene encodes an evolutionarily-conserved protein containing an N-terminal chromodomain and a C-terminal SET domain. The encoded protein is a histone methyltransferase that trimethylates lysine 9 of histone H3, which results in transcriptional gene silencing. Loss of function of this gene disrupts heterochromatin formation and may cause chromosome instability. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]

组蛋白甲基转移酶,以单乙基化H3‘Lys-9’为底物,特异性地对组蛋白H3的‘Lys-9’进行三甲基化。也有弱甲基化组蛋白H1(体外)。H3‘Lys-9’三甲基化通过向甲基化组蛋白中招募HP1(CBX1、CBX3和/或CBX5)蛋白,代表表观遗传转录抑制的一个特定标记。主要作用于异铬酸盐区,在周中心区和端粒区的本构性异染色质的建立中起着重要作用。H3'Lys-9'三甲基化也需要在中心周重复点直接DNA甲基化。SUV39H1通过与RB1相互作用而以组蛋白H3为靶点,参与了抑制肌D1刺激分化、调控细胞周期退出和进入分化的控制开关、PML-RARA融合蛋白的抑制、BMP诱导的抑制等过程,抑制IgA的开关重组和端粒长度的调节。
