Product Detail	A cell surface glycoprotein that plays a role in cell adhesion and tumour progression. Cell-cell adhesion occurs in a calcium- and fibronectin-independent manner. Like other carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecules, such as CEACAM5 and CEACAM8, it mediates homophilic and heterophilic cell adhesion. Heterophilic interactions with CEACAM8 occur in activated neutrophils. It plays a role in the adhesion of neutrophils to cell factor-activated endothelial cells. It functions as an oncogene by promoting tumour progression, positively regulating cell migration, cell adhesion to endothelial cells, and cell invasion. It also participates in the metastatic cascade by inducing acquired resistance to anoikis in pancreatic and colorectal cancer cells.
