Product Detail	A component of the 20S core proteasome complex that is involved in the hydrolytic degradation of most intracellular proteins. This complex performs many important functions in cells by associating with different regulatory particles. When combined with two 19S regulatory particles, it forms the 26S proteasome, thereby participating in the ATP-dependent degradation of ubiquitinated proteins. The 26S proteasome plays a key role in maintaining protein homeostasis by removing misfolded or damaged proteins that may impair cellular functions, as well as removing proteins that are no longer functionally needed. Associated with PA200 or PA28, the 20S proteasome mediates ubiquitin-independent protein degradation. This type of proteolysis is essential in several pathways, including subsets of spermatogenesis (20S-PA200 complex) or the production of MHC class I antigenic peptides (20S-PA28 complex).
