PubMed PubMed Product Detail Apolipoprotein (APOE) is a type of apolipoprotein, a protein associated with lipid particles, which mainly functions in lipoprotein-mediated lipid transport through plasma and interstitial fluid. Apolipoprotein is a core component of plasma lipoproteins and is involved in the production, transformation, and clearance of lipoproteins. Apolipoprotein is an amphipathic molecule that interacts with the lipids in the core of lipoprotein particles and the aqueous environment of plasma. Therefore, apolipoprotein is associated with chylomicrons, chylomicron remnants, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), but preferentially binds to high-density lipoprotein (HDL). It also binds to a wide range of cellular receptors, including LDL receptor/LDLR, LDL receptor-related proteins LRP1, LRP2, and LRP8, as well as very low-density lipoprotein receptor/VLDLR, which mediate cellular uptake of apolipoprotein E-containing lipoprotein particles.
