Fixation aims to preserve the original morphological structure of cells and tissues. Fixatives prevent endogenous lysosomal enzymes from self-lysis of the tissue and cells, while also inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth. Fixatives are categorized into aldehyde-based, mercury-based, alcohol-based, oxidizing agent-based, and picric acid salt-based solutions. Among these, formalin (an aldehyde) and ethanol (an alcohol) are the most commonly used.
Solarbio Eco-Friendly Fixative (Concentrated) is formulated primarily from plant polysaccharides and polyvinyl alcohol, free from harmful substances like formaldehyde. This non-toxic, eco-friendly fixative requires adding three parts 95% ethanol to prepare a ready-to-use fixative solution. It delivers clear morphological structures and high background contrast for routine paraffin sections after fixation. In fields such as immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology, it outperforms formaldehyde-based fixatives. Most antibodies require no antigen retrieval, reducing false positives caused by fixation. The histomorphology of fixed specimens matches that of formaldehyde-fixed samples, with clear cellular structures and no defects such as vacuolization or nuclear shrinkage. It can fully replace formaldehyde as the standard tissue fixative in pathology laboratories, minimizing health hazards and environmental pollution for pathology and surgical staff. It is primarily used for routine histological sectioning and staining, traditional histochemical staining, immunohistochemistry, and other molecular pathology techniques like in situ molecular hybridization.
This fixative solution is suitable for most tissue and cells fixation. It is one of the most common fixatives in IHC and cell culture fixation. It protects structure and nucleic acid of tissue and cells effectively. This reagent is for scientific research only, not for clinical diagnostic and other purpose.
