Lipid is a general term for neutral fats, lipids, and their derivatives. The common physical property is that they are insoluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.Oil Red O is a lipophilic azo dye that is a strong lipid solvent and dye, capable of specifically staining neutral triglycerides, lipids, and lipoproteins in tissues and cells. When tissue slices are inserted into the dye solution, the dye leaves the dye solution and dissolves in lipids (such as lipid droplets) within the tissue, causing the lipid droplets inside the tissue to turn red. Used to analyze the lipid status in cell samples.

Oil Red O Stain Kit, For Cultured Cells is known as ORO Stain kit for short, which is suitable for cell induced lipid droplet staining. It can display the smallest lipid droplets and preferentially adsorb dyes from solvents for lipids. The specimen does not use a fixative containing ethanol. If fixation is required, 10% formalin can be used. The positive staining result for fat is orange yellow to red, but the specific color depends on the lipid concentration.
