Mycoplasma mycoides is a group of infectious mycoplasmas, including six members: Mmc, MmmLC, Mcc, Mycoplasma leachii, MmmSC and Mccp . These members cause a variety of diseases in ruminants ranging from mild to severe and fatal.

 

Among members of the Mycoplasma mycoides family, there are differences in antigens, There are many similarities in genetic characteristics, and some species are difficult to identify using conventional methods, often causing confusion in diagnosis and taxonomy. The Mycoplasma mycoides family can be identified using in vitro culture and serological methods, but each has its own shortcomings: some species of Mycoplasma mycoides grow slowly, it takes three weeks to complete the isolation and identification work, and the sensitivity and specificity of the serological method are not ideal. The PCR method is used for identification, which has extremely high sensitivity and specificity, and the detection time is short, and the results can be obtained in just a few hours.
