PubMed PubMed Product Detail This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family. The DEAD box proteins are characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of RNA secondary structure such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Based on their distribution patterns, some members of this DEAD box protein family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2010]
Function:
DHX33 is a DEAD box protein whose function has not yet been determined. DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases.
Subunit:
Interacts with UBTF.
Subcellular Location:
Nucleus, nucleolus. Nucleus, nucleoplasm. Note=Predominantly in the nucleolus. During mitosis, localizes with the nucleolar organizing regions.
