Phenol red, also known as phenol red, which is a dark red crystalline powder,molecular weight is 354.38 and CAS number is 143-74-8. It is soluble in water, alcohol, acetone, almost insoluble in ether and chloroform.It is dark red when dissolved in alkali hydroxide or carbonate solution, stable in air, and can be used as identification medium in microbial culture. When dissolved in alkali hydroxide or carbonate solution, its color changes from dark red to yellow when the pH value of the solution decreases. It can also be used as an indicator of culture media such as D-Hanks, Hanks, MEM, 1640, DMEM, etc. After strict filtration and bacteria removal, it is only used in the field of scientific research, not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
